Specially Kandy is very famous among tourists for three main reasons: It is home to the sacred tooth relic of the Buddha (Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic; Dalada Maligawa ), Shopping and it always has a special place when it comes to festivities such as the Dalada Perahara. (July -August). Minneriya National Park Elephants assembled here are numbers around 150-200.

Itinerary

Day 1

Airport to Dambulla

Ayubowan! Welcome to Sri Lanka A representative of Nomad-Voyages will meet and greet you at the Katunayaka international airport and transfer you to Dambulla, located in the cultural triangle. Continue leisurely and relax in beautiful Dambulla. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel in Dambulla.

Day 2

Anuradapura and Mihintale

Breakfast at the hotel Visits Anuradhapura. It was the first capital and beyond any doubt the grandest city of ancient Ceylon. It is the home of two World Heritage sites. Sri Maha Bodhi (sacred bo-tree) was brought as a sapling of the tree under which prince Siddhartha attained enlightenment, the sacred bo-tree is over 2200 years old and is the oldest historically credentialed tree in the world. Brazen Place (2nd century B.C) is the most famous of all the dagobas. It originally portrayed the perfect “bubble shape” that modern restoration has not been able to accurately reproduce, ‘Samadhi’ Buddha statue (4th century A.D) is one of the most famous statues, depicting the Buddha in a state of ‘Samadhi’ or deep meditation. Isurumuniya rock temple (3rd century B.C) is well known for its rock carvings of two lovers.

Transfer from Anuradhapura to Mihintale. Proceed to Mihintale where Buddhism was first initiated in Sri Lanka. Mihintale is respected as the cradle of Buddhism in Sri Lanka. The Mihintale rock has many shrines and rock dwellings. A grand stairway of 1,840 steps made from stones will take you to the top to see the surrounding countryside. Transfer from Mihintale to Dambulla.

 

Day 3

Sigiriya and Polonnaruwa

Breakfast at the hotel Climbs the 5th century Sigiriya rock fortress which is a world heritage site, built by King Kashyapa (477-495 A.D). The ‘Lion Rock’ is a citadel of unusual beauty rising 200 meters from the scrub jungle. The rock was the innermost stronghold of the 70-hectare fortified town. A moat, rampart and extensive gardens including the renowned water gardens ring the base of the rock. visit the world-crowned frescoes of the heavenly maidens of Sigiriya, which are in a sheltered pocket of the rock approached by a spire stairway. these frescoes are painted in earth pigment on plaster.

Transfer from Sigiriya to Polonnaruwa Visit Polonnaruwa, which was the 2nd capital city of Sri Lanka built in the 11th and 12th centuries AD and is a world heritage site. Here you can see the ruins of the royal palace, the Gal Viharaya where 4 splendid statues of the Buddha in ‘Upright’, ‘Sedentary’ and ‘Recumbent’ postures carved out of rock could be seen, the Audience Hall, the Lotus Bath, the statue of King Parakramabahu, the lankathilake, the watadage,the galpotha temple, the Kiri vehera and the remains of an old temple of the Tooth Relic and the prakrama Samudraya a lake built by king Prakramabahu. Transfer from Polnnaruwa to Sigiriya. Dinner and overnight stay in Dambulla.

 

Day 4

Dambulla and Trincomalee

After breakfast, visit Dambulla rock temple Dambulla rock temple was built by king Walagambahu in the 1st century B.C., and it is a world heritage site. it is the most amazing of Sri Lanka’s cave temples. The complex of five caves with over 2000 sq. meters of painted walls and ceiling, is the largest area of paintings found in the world. It contains over 150 images of the Buddha carved out of rock and spanning 14 meters.

After that proceed to Trincomalee for 2 days beach stay. This is the best beach in Sri Lanka and can visit some important places around Trincomalee. Dinner and Overnight stay in Trincomalee.

 

Day 5

Nilaweli/Munneswaran/Trinco natural port

After breakfast at the hotel, visit Thiru Koneswaram Hindu Temple, a wonderful temple located on a rock headland in Trincomalee. It was built by Rishi Agastya on the instructions of Lord Shiva who was affected by the devotion of King Ravana. This place is unique in this respect because the Lord built a temple for his devotee as a reward for King Ravana’s devotion. Next to Trincomalee’s famous koneswaram temple, there is another shrine; small, but of importance for Hindu pilgrims called Shankari Devi temple. The day includes sightseeing surrounding Trincomalee natural port. evening leisure at the Nilaweli beach. Dinner and Overnight stay in Trincomalee

 

Day 6

Nilaweli/Pigeon Island

After an early morning breakfast visits Pigeon Island, National Park. It is one of the only two marine national parks in the country, famous for the best coral reefs in Sri Lanka. Leisure time at the Nilaweli beach. Dinner and Overnight stay in Trincomalee

Day 7

Trincomalee, Matale & Kandy

After breakfast, transfer from Trincomalee to Kandy En route to Matale visit a spice garden to see different spices for which Sri Lanka is famous for. There after proceeding to Kandy, visit the temple of Tooth Relic in Kandy, and there after witness a cultural show. Dinner and overnight stay in Kandy.

Day 8

Kandy - Peradeniya - Kandy

Transfer from Kandy to peradeniya. Peradeniya botanical garden was first built as a pleasure garden by a Sinhala kings and was dilated by the British. It is 147 acres in extent and provides an awe-inspiring variety of trees, plants, and flowers. transfer to Kandy and do the Kandy city tour and shopping. Dinner and overnight stay in kandy.

Day 9

Kandy - Tea Plantation - Nuwara Eliya

Transfer from Kandy to Nuwara Eliya. On the way visit a tea plantation and a tea factory, where the best tea in the world is produced. Here you could see the process of manufacturing tea. You can also see how tea is graded. taste a cup of pure Ceylon tea in the factory. Dinner and overnight stay in Nuwara Eliya.

Day 10

Nuwara Eliya - Ella-Tissamaharama

After early breakfast transfer to Nanu Oya Railway Station from Nanu oya to Ella by train with beautiful hill country scenery and visit beautiful Ravana waterfalls, after that proceed to Tissamaharama check in to hotel evening leisure at Tissamaharama lake (Tissa wewa)

(Optional) Canoeing in the beautiful lake of Yodakandiya in Tissamaharama, to see beautiful islands, lake fishermen and many sights of the locality. Dinner and overnight in Tissamaharama.

Day 11

Tissamaharama - Mirissa - Galle

After early breakfast at the hotel Proceed to the Yala National Park by jeep. Yala is the largest national park in Sri Lanka, which is the home for wild elephant, wild boars, wild buffaloes, leopards, bears, deer and crocodiles. Large flocks of migratory and indigenous birds are also found here. En-route after lunch visit to Unawatuna and visit to Blow Hole Hummanaya the name Hummanaya is attributed to the noise made when the water gushes up the narrow fissure. Evening leisure at Mirissa beach Mirissa is one of the main beach destinations in southern Sri Lanka. the area has it all, beautiful beaches, surf waves, whale watching and great bars and restaurants. dinner overnight stay in Mirissa.

Day 12

Mirissa Galle--Kalutara

Mirissa whale watching After early breakfast heading to the whale-watching excursion, Mirissa is one of the best places in the world to view blue whales where they ascend from the deep and breach the surface to feed on krill. Blues Whales, the biggest of earth’s mammals, along with Sperm Whales, Orcas, Spinner Whales, and dolphins are among the species that can be viewed daily from the shimmering blue waters just off the coast.( this trip is 4 to 5 hours), After that proceed to Galle, it was once the chief port of Ceylon.You can also visit the Galle fort (spanning 90 acres) which was originally built by the Portuguese and later extended by the dutch in 1663. This is the world heritage site. Dinner and overnight stay in Galle/Hikkaduwa.

Day 13

Beach stay in Galle/Hikkaduwa or Kalutara

Leisure at the beach Overnight stay at the same hotel.

Day 14

Departure Kalutara -Colombo- Airport

Check out and leave for the Airport. On the way visit Colombo shopping (depend on the flight Departure time).
