Pasikuda Beach

It is famous for its golden bay and clear, shallow waters in which you can wade 50 metres out to sea. The bay of Passikudah is truly scenic and is protected by a reef that runs across the bay making it one of the safest and calmest stretches of coastline in the east. The reef is home to some lovely coral formations and schools of reef fish can be seen while snorkelling.

Pasikuda, meaning “green-algae-bay” is situated in the Eastern seaboard of Sri Lanka between Kalkuda and the Indian Ocean, approximately 35 kilometres from Batticaloa Town. The turquoise blue waters of the bay attract local and foreign tourists to this wide sandy place under the hot tropical sun to surf, swim or just frolic in the water. Many other activities are available from kite surfing, boogie boarding to surfing and sailing across in a canoe.

Long out of reach due to the civil conflict in Sri Lanka, is now re-emerging as a tourist hot spot in the East of Sri Lanka. Coconut palms and palmyra trees adorn the shores of this area, due to the semi-arid state, Sunscreen and a large-brimmed hat are recommended along with lots of liquid, to keep the heat under control.
